By Maggie Foight Good performance is almost always preceded by a detailed process that helps athletes reach their goals. Sage Klein (the February Male Student Feature) uses his own set of tools to reach success in his soccer games. Communication with teammates is one such tool that he uses. “I pay attention to direction and what’s going on from coaches. I listen to my teammates and other defenders. We communicate well -- if a certain situation happens, we know how to deal with it, how we should line up and move forward from there,” Klein says.

By Maggie Foight Many students at Wilson hold jobs in the community, varying from lifeguarding to being a cashier. One student, a sophomore named Mia Serrano, works at Berks Lanes and was picked to be the February Female Student Feature because of her hard work both there and at school. For students, working is much different than it is for adults. After the shift, students don’t get to go home and relax for the rest of the night. Instead, they have the pressure of homework, extracurriculars, and studying laid on them, and sometimes, it becomes very overbearing. By Sarah Larkin Passionate teachers are what makes a school great and Mrs. Timpson’s love for teaching helps to make Wilson better. Mrs. Timpson teaches Honors and AP Chemistry, along with Contemporary Issues and Ethics in Science at Wilson. She has been teaching for 19 years, the majority of which have been spent at Wilson. Ever since she was a child, Mrs. Timpson wanted to be a teacher, finding inspiration in her mother’s teaching career. In order to reach her goal of becoming a teacher, Mrs. Timpson got a Bachelor of Science in Chemical engineering from Bucknell and went on to receive her Certification in Chemistry Education and Master’s of Education degrees from West Chester University. Before teaching, Mrs. Timpson actually practiced as a chemical engineer. After making a living as an engineer for some time, Mrs. Timpson realized that engineering was not where her heart was. With the money left over from the high salary of an engineer, Mrs. Timpson took to the much less financially rewarding profession of teaching. By Sarah Larkin Wilson students care. A prime example of that is Wilson’s very own Caring for Kids club, or CFK. CFK started out in early 2014 when its founders were in their sophomore year of high school. The founders noticed that there weren’t a lot of ways for students to interact directly with children in need, so they decided the best way to create the opportunity would be through a club. By Maggie Foight The second Literary Magazine Coffeehouse, hosted in late January, was yet again a great success! Wilson students gathered in the Upper House WAGS room to listen to poems and songs performed by their peers. Unfortunately, some acts could not be fit in due to the time restriction, but the LitMag staff worked hard to ensure that as many students as possible were able to perform.
Many of the performers had performed at the first coffeehouse, but there were some new students that joined in the second time around. By Sarah Larkin Being only five months and three weeks old, Hans holds up to the expectation of an energetic kitten you may have. He would prefer to be roaming around on new adventures than locked away in a cage. Weighing in at only four pounds, Hans is a Domestic Short Hair with brown tiger fur and striking eyes. He would love to go to a home with another cat to be his playmate, but honestly just wants to be in a new home! By Sarah Larkin Benny is shy at first but quick to warm up to people the more they cuddle him and give him attention. He about 5 years old and weighs 58 pounds. This adorable boy is a mix between an American Bully and an American Pit Bull and has a beautiful brindle coat. Benny isn’t much of a walker and would rather lay at home snuggled up with his owner. He’s not too good at playing either because he’s a little scared of toys. This pro-cuddler can’t wait to settle down in a new home! |
