By Sarah Larkin Passionate teachers are what makes a school great and Mrs. Timpson’s love for teaching helps to make Wilson better. Mrs. Timpson teaches Honors and AP Chemistry, along with Contemporary Issues and Ethics in Science at Wilson. She has been teaching for 19 years, the majority of which have been spent at Wilson. Ever since she was a child, Mrs. Timpson wanted to be a teacher, finding inspiration in her mother’s teaching career. In order to reach her goal of becoming a teacher, Mrs. Timpson got a Bachelor of Science in Chemical engineering from Bucknell and went on to receive her Certification in Chemistry Education and Master’s of Education degrees from West Chester University. Before teaching, Mrs. Timpson actually practiced as a chemical engineer. After making a living as an engineer for some time, Mrs. Timpson realized that engineering was not where her heart was. With the money left over from the high salary of an engineer, Mrs. Timpson took to the much less financially rewarding profession of teaching. Now that Mrs. Timpson achieved her dream of becoming a teacher, she loves to engage the various learning styles (auditory, visual, hands-on, etc.) of all the diverse students she has. Her teaching style includes all different types of materials to appeal to every type of learner. Mrs. Timpson is also an adamant believer in the fact that each student is capable of understanding the information at some level, which is why she dedicates her time after school to helping students out one-on-one. Mrs. Timpson hopes to instill a heightened level of self-confidence in her pupils by focusing so greatly on their learning; she wants them to learn about topics they never imagined that they could comprehend. But Mrs. Timpson doesn’t solely focus on teaching in her life; she has many other hobbies and interests outside of the classroom. Spending time with her family is one of the most important things to this dedicated teacher. This family includes her husband, her three daughters, and her three golden retrievers, who just as valuable to her family as the non-four-legged members. As such a strong advocate for animals, Mrs. Timpson is highly involved in various programs such as the Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue and Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services. She also enjoys recycling materials for new purposes like tea accessories, lawn items, and the stylish clothing she makes and also sports to school. Mrs. Timpson shows her flare for fashion and visual appeals through her business: her very own tearoom. She runs this tearoom because she likes to be able to make tasty foods that are also pleasing to the eye. Mrs. Timpson’s passion outside of the classroom clearly matches what enthusiasm she shows inside the classroom. Her love for her job and her life as a whole will be what inspires the generation of students rising out of Wilson High School.
