By Maggie Foight The second Literary Magazine Coffeehouse, hosted in late January, was yet again a great success! Wilson students gathered in the Upper House WAGS room to listen to poems and songs performed by their peers. Unfortunately, some acts could not be fit in due to the time restriction, but the LitMag staff worked hard to ensure that as many students as possible were able to perform. Many of the performers had performed at the first coffeehouse, but there were some new students that joined in the second time around. Two poems were read, one by Erin Endres and one by Andy Damord. Endres’ was titled, “Night,” and she wrote it by herself. Damord chose to voice a poem that held a personal connection to him, titled “Special, True Friend.”
A few songs were sung, including performers like Elisa Silva, Bryn and Reagan Underwood. Silva sang “What Now” by the pop singer Rihanna while the Underwood sisters sang “I Will Never Leave You” from the musical “Sideshow.” Other songs were sung with live accompaniment. Two students, Loraine Pabon and Miguel Vega, performed “It Don’t Work That Way,” and the latter performed again with Lily Eck for vocals. Liam Worcheck and Riona Mackey-Wood both sang and played instruments, guitar and ukulele respectively. Worcheck played “The Fisherman” by Leo Kotke and Mackey-Wood performed “House of Gold” by Twenty-One Pilots. As an additional benefit to listening to their peers, students were able to get drinks (coffee or hot chocolate) in addition to various small treats. Tickets cost just three dollars each, and the club made roughly the same amount of profits as last time. The sale of tickets greatly benefitted the club once again with publishing costs, this time for the spring issue of “Ink,” volume six. In order to get involved in Wilson’s literary magazine and have the chance to get their work published, students can submit original work at goo.gl/sssLqY. Submissions are allowed in the form of poetry, artwork, short story, photography, personal essay, or screenwriting. A final congratulations seems to be in order for the staff of “Ink” on their great job orchestrating this second coffeehouse fundraiser. Good luck on future publications!
