By Arianna Papadakis The club meets each week, every Thursdays in Mrs. Rothenberger’s room, L508. This is one of Wilson’s newer clubs, created this year by sophomore student, Emma Bao. Her biggest inspiration for the club was yoga class.
“I took level 2 gym this year and I chose yoga,” she said. “I ended up really liking the class, so I decided to try and run a club to keep it going.” When asked why she wanted to create the club, she said that it gave her an opportunity to do more yoga in school. It also allowed her to share yoga with her friends and peers. Part of what makes the club such a stress free environment are the people who make up the club. The members of the club are all very friendly and accepting to different people and new ideas. All the members agreed that you don’t have to come to every meeting, and you aren’t required to participate in any fundraising if you don’t want to. One of the members, Hannah Katein, said “we won’t yell at you if you get something wrong.” The whole club is very non-judgemental and respectful. As of right now, the club is very small. There are currently about six active members, myself being included. We are currently seeking new members. One of the club’s main goals is to gain more members. Anyone is welcome regardless of their experience and knowledge about yoga. Meetings tend to run until 3:10 P.M. or 3:30 P.M. During these meetings, we will review various yoga poses and sometimes participate in guided meditations lead by Emma. Other times, meetings are spent planning fundraisers, as we often sell baked goods at the home basketball games and other school functions in order to raise money for the club. All are welcome and encouraged to join. If you are interested, please feel free to email Emma Bao ([email protected]) or Mrs. Rothenberger ([email protected]) for more information. You can also gain information from the club’s official website: https://sites.google.com/share.wilsonsd.org/yoga-and-meditation-club/home. We hope to see you at our next meeting!
