Anthony partnered with Keystone Military, a nonprofit organization that works to help military personnel as well as their families. Together they stuff stockings with toiletries, non-perishable snacks, and various other items and sends them to troops stationed overseas. “We send them stuff that they wouldn’t get overseas,” explains Anthony. “Stuff that we get and they don’t.” Anthony and his third grade class even decorate the stockings for the soldiers so that they’re equipped with not only the essentials, but a personal touch of Christmas cheer. As this is Anthony’s third year helping Keystone Military, he set his sights high with a goal of reaching 6,000 pounds of donations. In order to reach this, Anthony worked hard and spent much of his time promoting the cause. A few of the third grader’s approaches included giving a speech on his school’s morning announcement segment as well as partnering with organizations like JROTC and companies like Building 24 so as to help raise money. And much to Anthony’s satisfaction, his goal was easily exceeded. “We got more than we needed,” Anthony said, “So we were able to send some stuff to the VA Hospital and Fort Briggs.” Anthony hopes to go even bigger in 2016, with plans of reaching out to other schools in the district. It is evident that Anthony is quite the busy and ambitious third grader, but in addition to his passion for helping others, he also loves to play sports. Anthony participates in wrestling, lacrosse, baseball, and cross country. He is also student council representative for third through fifth grade and helps to organize “Season for Sharing” at the Greater Berks Food Bank. Anthony may only be nine years old, but he has one of the biggest of hearts. He plans to keep giving and interacting with charity organizations as he gets older. “When I get to the high school,” Anthony said, “I want to join clubs that help me help people.” One thing is for certain, Wilson High School will be lucky to have such a generous, kind, and well-rounded young man.
