By Frau Clarke-Ipsen A once in a lifetime experience. That was the opportunity for our Wilson language students this April when they visited our partner school, Hildegardis Gymnasium in Kempten, Bavaria for two weeks. Sixteen Wilson students spent four days touring Southern Germany and Austria before arriving in Kempten to stay with their partners and visit their school. The students were paired with host families to stay with at night and spent their mornings enriched within the Gymnasium’s school system. Our Bavarian hosts were extremely generous in every regard. They treated us to a wonderful breakfast cooked by the mothers on the first day, a wonderful farewell dinner party, and many unforgettable day trips as well as many that the families organized for their guests. As a group, we visited Munich, Salzburg, Berchtesgaden and Königsee, Dachau, Ludwig II’s castles as well as Oberammergau. There were many superlatives: Kempten is Germany’s oldest city; we took a boat out on Lake Constance Germany’s largest lake which is surrounded by the Swiss, Austrian and German Alps and climbed (more like ski-lifted) to the top of Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze. It has to be the best view in the world for lunch! The Wilson students were excellent ambassadors for our school. With much pride we can say we received many compliments from the German school staff, host parents, airline, and hotel staff as well as city guides on their behavior, enthusiasm and interest. Congratulations to all those who attended, as Wilson goes global! From this phenomenal experience, many students plan to return in the near future. Hey, Oktoberfest is only a few months away!!!!
