By Ersha Kumar “V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! That’s the Bulldog battlecry!” Late last month, Wilson had an exciting spirit week, filled with door decorating, pep rallies, and, of course, homecoming! Every year, Wilson students are excited to show off their school spirit by doing fun activities throughout the course of the week. The week starts off with the door decorating contest, in which homerooms compete in order to show that they have the most school spirit. In the middle of the week is the Wilson Bulldogs’ favorite event: the pep rally! Music, cheering, and Wilson pride fill the gymnasium as the sports teams are recognized for their season’s achievements, and the homecoming court participates in fun activities to prove that they are the most spirited bulldogs in school. The week ends with the well-awaited homecoming game, filled with entertaining games, good food, and alumni from all across the country. The run down of spirit week this year was: Monday-Mix and Match Monday, Tuesday-Team Tuesday, Wednesday-Wilson Wednesday aka Red and White Day, Thursday-Tie-Dye Thursday, and Friday-Fancy Friday. The homeroom which had participated the most won a free pancake breakfast, which could explain the reason for why there was a great amount of participation from the students this year! (Or maybe it’s because us Bulldogs have a lot of pride.)
Every year, the homecoming court includes a wide range of wonderful young men and women who are the embodiment of Wilson Pride. This year, there were 18 candidates for homecoming king and queen: 11 women and 7 men. Some of Wilson PawPrint’s very own, Jada Butler, Kelly Brennan, and Molly Farrara, were part of the festivities. Although any one of them would have made great homecoming winners, only two can have the crown. Our homecoming winners this year were Alex Keller and Casey Schmael. Now who can forget the best part of Spirit Week? The pep rally always manages to hype up students for the big game on Friday and make them proud to be a part of the Wilson community. As a member of the marching band, dancing in the stands is definitely the part I look forward to. However, some of the students’ favorite events include the games in which teachers and students alike participate in and, of course, the highlight of the day, the teacher flash mob. Watching beloved teachers dance in front of the whole student body really does a great job uniting the Wilson Bulldogs. But most of all, the pep rally brings the whole high school together for a common purpose: to celebrate our school spirit.
