By Desiree Lutz On the first and second of Sept. 2018, artists such as Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj, Miguel and many more gathered in the City of Brotherly Love to perform in front of over 80,000 people at Made in America. Made in America is a music festival that began back in 2012 by rapper Jay-Z. The festival, which takes place in Philadelphia, is located on Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Every year, three stages are used for the live music: the Rocky Stage, the Liberty Stage, and the Freedom tent. Along with the large number of performers, many well-known corporations send stands to the festival, such as Abercrombie and Fitch, the official fashion partner of the festival. The stand sold limited edition shirts with “Made in America” embroidered on the front. The foods sold at the festival were the 29 winners of the fire Made in America Culinary Competition for Food Vendors that was held in July. Winners were selected to cook and bake a list of foods from desserts to sandwiches. Meek Mill gave his first performance since being released from jail, a sentence imposed because of a probation violation. He sang a number of songs, including the titles “1942 Flows,” “Dreams and Nightmares” and “Stay Woke.” Nicki Minaj performed both nights along side of the artists 6ix9ine, Playboi Carti, and Post Malone. Minaj sang songs from her new album Queen, which was released a few weeks before the festival. Post Malone ended the festival on the second night with many of his hit songs including, “Better Now,” “Too Young” and “No Option.” Hannah Nicholson, a junior at Wilson High School, said her favorite performance was, “..either Post Malone or Diplo. It was cool because Post Malone is so good [to see] in person when he sings it makes the songs 10 times better and Diplo’s performance was really fun.” Made in America is a way to bring small and big artists together, along with fans creating forever lasting memories while listening to their favorite artists. Next year, Made in America is moving from its original location on Benjamin Franklin Parkway; however, it is still staying in Philadelphia since it is a “very important event for the city” (USA Today) according to the city’s mayor.
