By Jada Butler If you know Ryan Sullivan, senior, then you know that he has a knack for making a lot of noise. Sound design and music production, or musicality, are among his favorite things to do. While being a member of Wilson Media Productions and Wilson Theater Company all through his highschool career, he has had access to sound boards to hone in his skills towards making his future career goal: to become a Sound Designer. “Two years ago, I realized I could do this as a job,” says Ryan. “I originally wanted to do music production, but I realized I liked making music for myself and didn’t want to make the ‘Next Top 100’ track.” Ryan goes on to explain that his job is to tell a story to make people feel a certain way. “Music is what makes people feel,” he says, “What is music? It’s sound.” Sound design is the process of creating, manipulating, and generating sounds to accompany a medium such as film, dialogue, or a video game. Ryan’s experience in WMP and WTC have given him many years to experience what the job could entail. “Sound design was always in the back of my mind, and I realized it’s what I wanted to do,” he says.
Along with sound design, Ryan also has interests in acting, media arts, drawing, thinking about philosophical things, and writing - mainly poetry. He is also a member of the Literary Magazine club, and you can find his work featured in Ink at the end of this first semester. Ryan is incredibly excited to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where he intends to launch his career. We wish him the best of luck at SCAD, and who knows - maybe we will be reading the name, Ryan Sullivan, in the credits at the movies in 10 years.
