By Maggie Foight You see him on the morning announcements, the stage year-round, and in the halls throughout the day: a senior of Wilson’s class of 2017, Aaron Rutt is close to the end of his high school career. He began acting in a sixth grade musical: “The first time I really enjoyed acting was at Southern… for the musical Oliver. I really only did it because it was an extra activity after school and I liked music… At the end, I realized I enjoyed it, and that it made me happy.” He currently enjoys acting in the Wilson High School plays, and the annual musical. By the end of this year, he will have acted in a total of eleven main stage productions and six one-acts. He has also stage managed for the early 2016 production Footloose, and plans on doing the same with 2017’s Chicago. After gathering all of this experience, along with being the theater company president, one would think that Rutt would be looking into mainly the theatrical possibilities, but he says that he is aware of how tough that area of work is.
Despite a projected thirteen percent rise in the acting area, Rutt is turning towards media, which is projected to only have four percent rise. He says he is keeping his options open, but he has yet to pinpoint a certain job that he wants to get. Depending upon what specifics he wants for his job, Rutt has his top three field picks ready: film, media studies and cinematography, so the possibilities for him are seemingly endless: cinematographer, corporate videographer, media solutions manager. When asked about what job he thinks he is leaning towards, Rutt says, “I just know what I love, so I will try to work my way into the cinema field.” Choosing one path as just a senior in high school is difficult - Rutt knows this all too well. It seems too early to tell what will be best for his future. He knows that there are going to be difficulties later on, but whatever he decides, Aaron Rutt is prepared and ready.
