Earlier in July, Donald Trump, known real estate developer and reality TV star, filed to be a candidate in the 2016 presidential election, and since then he has been in first place for the Republican vote. However, some find his campaign to be somewhat of a joke. He simply does not really have the support he needs from the Republican Party due to far-fetched policies and lack of experience. Despite this lack of support, Trump is a leading candidate, along with competitor Ben Carson, in the Republican Party to run our nation as early as next year. Trump has been leading in the polls, though his ideas have people both intrigued and disgusted. People who are against immigration, ObamaCare, and Hillary Clinton usually agree that he is the best candidate to “Get America Back on Track.” His supporters also believe that most immigrants from Mexico are all criminals. At one of Trump’s rallies, a pro-immigration person was even spit upon because they believed immigration could benefit the U.S. In recent news, Trump had said that he would be able to fill a whole stadium with his following, though only half of the number of people originally expected had shown up. Despite the lack of people showing up to the rallies, however, he still remains on top.
The media plays an important role in Trump’s future Presidency because they give him all of the attention. Trump’s face is constantly scattered throughout front pages of newspapers and magazines nationwide. The media’s focus on Trump only enhances his popularity. Do the other Republican Party nominees receive the Just on the nightly news, Donald Trump was talked about for 36 minutes and 30 seconds, with Jeb Bush ringing in at a mere 9 minutes and 22 seconds. Despite this destructive publicity, Trump’s fame and house-hold name is clearly the only thing he has going for him. It pains me to say that, with the proper campaigning and publicity stunts, Donald Trump could, in fact, become President of the United States. The fact that Trump doesn’t believe in political correctness is alone one more misguided reason people support him. He doesn’t really care if he’s getting negative attention from the media because as any politician knows, any press is good press, and many republicans tend to agree with Trump’s policies regardless of how under-qualified he truly is. Donald Trump is all talk and no action - it’s just a matter of time for his supporters to realize this, too.
