By Taylor Schutt This election is a perfect reason to discuss whether America should or should not keep the Electoral College. A little background: the Electoral College was established by the founding fathers and was written into the Constitution. It has served as a compromise between election of the President by a vote from Congress and the popular vote. There are 538 total electors in the Electoral College and a majority of 270 votes is required to elect the President. The Electoral College does not vote for the “right” person sometimes, meaning that the group goes against the popular vote. The most outrageous election upsets were during the 2016 election and the 2000 election. Both Hillary Clinton and Al Gore won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote.

Sure, people say that grades don't matter, and you won't even remember your grades when you’re older. But for now, getting the good grade shows colleges that you have a grasp on the knowledge provided and will be successful at their institution. One of these grades includes the midterm. In November, nine states voted on cannabis reform laws, including Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada and North Dakota. Having the vast majority of states actually pass these new policies, the country and its mindset seem to be moving in the right direction. However, the population also seems to not want to look at the negative effects that states like Colorado have experienced. The reform varied from simple medicinal legalization to recreational legalization. By Ava Breslin Coddling or self-confidence boosting? The debate between having participation ribbons or not has been a very controversial one in the parenting community. While both sides have very strong values and ideas and can be argued, I agree with getting rid of the participation awards altogether. |
