By Erin Endres In recent years social media and the internet has become wildly popular. The internet has changed from a luxury into a daily necessity. There are so many jobs based solely off of these media outlets - jobs of which are being filled by the younger generation who has become more tech-savvy than their parents. However, these jobs are expanding from just having advertisements on social media sites to many people having their social media sites and accounts as their own jobs and sources of income. YouTube videos, blogs, and instagram accounts and other social media accounts have turned into jobs and businesses for many young adults these days. Many young teenagers have made themselves famous all because of the internet and social media. Countless amounts of teens have dropped out of school and put all of their efforts into maintaining their high status on their sites. Is this really the new craze? Putting your whole life onto the internet certainly does not seem practical or enjoyable to me. I think that the constant pressure of keeping your “fans” happy would drive me crazy. Most of the money they make is from advertising companies like Nike and Vans by wearing and using their products. People like the Kardashians and Jenners have made their entire living off of their famous reality television show. They even get paid each time they post on their twitters and instagrams. It was found that Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid make between $125,000 and $300,000 for each post on any of their social media sites! That is more than many Americans make in one year. But is one single post really worth the mass amounts of money that they receive? Personally, I do not think that anyone should be getting paid large amounts of money just for posting on a social media site. I believe that social media should just be a way for people to keep in touch and post about their lives. Not a place for people to make a living just because they have millions of followers. I do approve of using social media to advertise a product or company because it is a smart and creative way to gain attention and customers. But when a human being becomes the thing being advertised and gaining a profit, I think that the concept of social media has been taken too far.
