By Lisbeth Segura In February 2013, a teenage Connecticuter boy -- with the help of his girlfriend’s brother and a blizzard -- created a winter wonderland promposal. The boy made the sculpture out of snow overnight so that his girlfriend could see it through the window when she woke up on Valentine’s Day morning. Prom is that amazing time of year for every high school student; what with the corsages, the dresses, the tuxes, the boutonnières, limousines, and let’s not forget the promposals, it all works out to make a night to remember. Back in the day a guy would just go up to a girl, maybe with a flower in hand, and ask her to go to prom with him. Nowadays promposals have gone to the extreme, from riding on horseback towards the lucky girl, making signs out of snow, or making a YouTube video asking actual celebrities like Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and even ex-Vice President Joe Biden. But is all the extravagance worth it? Is asking someone to be your date even worth it? Why not go out with friends and have the best night ever without a date? Proposals could be considered a traditional ritual, that any high school student has to go through. As the years go by, the world changes, so why shouldn’t promposals? Nowadays, not only boys ask girls out, but boys also ask other boys out. However, when it comes to the issue of “how to ask the person out” it has become more difficult than doing your own taxes. There are even some people who convince actual police officers to arrest them if the other person says no. So why do the “big ask”? Why not just go up to the person and just ask them to prom? It's so much simpler. I’m not saying not to do the big ask, but what happens when your big plan backfires? What if the person says no? It's a very risky thing to do, making such a big deal of things, and even if it's the most elaborate promposal in the world, the person being asked has the liberty to say no. So why not just go up to the person and ask them directly? And if they say no, why not just go with your friends. After all, prom is not about going with a date. Is about enjoying the last few days in high school, and making memories with friends that will last forever. So instead of spending thousands of dollars on renting a horse just to ask someone to prom, let's just take a deep breath, go up to the person and ask them the question. If they answer no, go with friends, relax, have fun, and have your own wonderful night at prom. Photos Courtesy Of: Huffington Post; pxhere.com
