By JaJuan Hook If I told you at the beginning of the NFL season that the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos were headed to Super Bowl 50, you would think I was crazy. After winning their conference championships, they are meeting up on February 7 to battle it out for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
While Denver had to hang on in the final seconds of the AFC Championship Game to solidify a 20-18 win against the New England Patriots, the Carolina Panthers jumped out to a 17-0 lead against the Arizona Cardinals and then cruised to a 49-15 win.

By Utkarsh Panchel This NFL season has been a nail biter. There have been 108 games through this week that have been won by less than 7 points. Almost every team has a star player, which has lead them to win a tremendous amount of games. For most teams, that player is a rookie. But for some teams, veteran quarterbacks continue to push out amazing games. In all, this postseason will be must watch. First of all, the Carolina Panthers are 14-0, which has only happened 4 times before in NFL history. The combination of a stellar offense and hard-hitting defense creates an unstoppable force. Other teams, like the Patriots and Broncos, are continuing to show success, season after season. One team that has been a surprise is the Arizona Cardinals. They have shown tremendous growth from last year, mainly from the return of Carson Palmer. His return has caused their offense to be the best in the league. Their defense isn't very behind either. Another team, the Cincinnati Bengals, has proven to be spectacular this season. They improved themselves, so that now they have a spot in the playoffs. The playoffs will be so competitive, that it’s hard to choose who going to be crowned the winner. The NFC East itself is a battle to the death situation. Only Washington, currently, has an even record. All the other teams are below 500. Yet, the Giants and Eagles have a chance to win. If the Eagles win their next game, against the Redskins, they are in the playoffs. But if the Redskins win, then the Redskins get in. That’s how close that conference is. This situation is present in almost every conference. The Jets, Steelers and Chiefs are all battling it out to get a spot in the playoffs. In my opinion, if the Panthers keep up their stellar work, they can't be stopped. But there are multiple teams that have a chance to beat them. Green Bay, Arizona and New England all have a chance to knock out the clear favorite and become the ultimate winner. Even the teams with lower records, who have a chance of making the playoffs, have a chance to win it all. Even though the chances may not be as high, if they put an immense amount of effort in, anything can happen. Overall, it is anyone's game. But one thing is for sure: This will be a playoffs to remember. By James Brennan The College Football regular season just ended and the bowl games are right around the corner. On New Year's Eve, the two playoff bowl games will be played. Michigan State and Alabama will be playing in the Cotton Bowl, and Clemson will be playing Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. The winners of these two games will move on and play for the National Championship. There are many different opinions on who will take home the trophy. For the Cotton Bowl, I believe that Alabama will beat Michigan State and move on to the Championship. Alabama is known for their shut down defense and they will shut down the Michigan State offense. Only one team has been able to score more than 30 points an Alabama’s defense so far this year. Michigan State’s defense is going to have to step it up and keep it a low scoring game. But that will be hard to do because of a guy named Derrick Henry. Henry won the Heisman this year and it was well deserved. He averaged 4.9 yards and carry and had 23 touchdowns this year. Derrick Henry and Alabama’s defense will be too much for Michigan State to handle, and Alabama will win the Cotton Bowl. Alabama will meet up with Clemson in the National Championship game. Clemson will win the Orange Bowl because they have one of the best ranked defenses in the nation. As of now they are ranked 7th in the nation defensively. There defense is lead by their linebacker Ben Boulware and their star cornerback Mackensie Alexander. These guys are two of the best defenders in the league and will lead their defense to shut down the Oklahoma offense. Also Clemson has the best quarterback in nation by the name of Deshaun Watson. Watson is having an amazing season and will continue to in the Orange Bowl. If Alabama makes it to the National Championship game, I believe that they will win it no matter who they play just because of their coach, Nick Saban. Saban is arguably the best college football coach in the nation. Also, he has a lot of experience coaching in big games. In his seven years at Alabama, he has won 5 bowl games. Three of those bowl wins have been National Championships. As long as Saban is there, Alabama has the best shot to win the National Championship. |
