The contract negotiation between the teacher’s union and the School Board buzz at Wilson turned to a soft murmur in the past weeks. However, the silence broke on Nov. 21, 2015, amid the contract negotiations, when the Wilson Education Association posted an informational video titled “Contract Negotiations: Where We Stand” onto their website.

On Thurs., Oct. 29, 2015, Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Rep., was officially elected Speaker of the House after winning the majority rule with 263 votes from the House members. Ryan was nominated by the Republican party on Wed., Oct. 28, 2015 at the GOP Conference. Ryan is set to replace the previous Speaker, John Boehner, who resigned abruptly due to the conflict ridden House. The nomination took place in GOP conference where Ryan won 200 out of 247 GOP member votes. On Oct. 16, 2015, an announcement was posted on the Wilson School District homepage that outlined the Wilson Board of Education’s “final, best offer” for the teacher’s contract. The proposal was rejected by the Wilson Education Association, more commonly known as our teacher’s union, at a 428-1 vote.The teachers are still working under the July 2012 contract agreement. The motives of this post were, as stated on the district homepage, “to keep our community informed.” It then went on to state the items included in the rejected contract proposal. Olympic athlete and fellow Bulldog, Kristy Kowal will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on October 24th, 2015 at the Valley Forge Casino. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will honor Kowal and her athletic integrity and sportsmanship. Kowal will be inducted among many other athletic figures like Bernie Parent, Peter Carlesimo, and Matt Bahr. Kowal competed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia where she received a silver medal in the 200-meter breaststroke. Kowal is a former world-record holder, and was the first American woman to win a world championship title in the 100-meter breaststroke. Kowal has made a splash not only in her athletic career, but also in the Wilson community. Kowal retired from her athletic career in 2004. The Reading native is now a third grade teacher in the Wilson School District. Kowal spends her time teaching kids what she loves to do - swimming. She is an assistant swimming coach for Wilson High School where she mentors students and spreads her love for this aquatic sport.
