By Kris Jones Before the glitz and glamour of the NFL Draft, there is another important event in which NFL coaches and their scouts go to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to attend the NFL Combine. The Combine is a 4 day event where some of the best prospects in the nation have a special invitation to workout under the watchful eyes of every coach and scout in the league. The workouts include the 40 Yard Dash, the most infamous of the workouts, positional drills, bench presses, vertical and broad jump, the 3 cone drill and the shuttle run. But, enough of the summary, let’s break the combine down by the days.

By JaJuan Hook If I told you at the beginning of the NFL season that the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos were headed to Super Bowl 50, you would think I was crazy. After winning their conference championships, they are meeting up on February 7 to battle it out for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
While Denver had to hang on in the final seconds of the AFC Championship Game to solidify a 20-18 win against the New England Patriots, the Carolina Panthers jumped out to a 17-0 lead against the Arizona Cardinals and then cruised to a 49-15 win. By Kris Jones The 2016 College Football National Championship pitted the #2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide against Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers that turned out to be, in the college football fans’ eyes, an instant classic. The road to the National Championship seemed like a breeze for number 1 Clemson. They had arguably the best quarterback in the ACC, DeShaun Watson, and possibly the best head coach in the ACC in Dabo Swinney. Luckily, both Dabo and Deshaun will return next season to the Tigers, making the team’s national title hopes a lot brighter. Although they do lose defensive end Shaq Lawson, linebacker B.J. Goodson, and defensive tackle D.J. Reader to graduation, Clemson has a lot of talent coming in next season.
By James Brennan The College Football regular season just ended and the bowl games are right around the corner. On New Year's Eve, the two playoff bowl games will be played. Michigan State and Alabama will be playing in the Cotton Bowl, and Clemson will be playing Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. The winners of these two games will move on and play for the National Championship. There are many different opinions on who will take home the trophy. For the Cotton Bowl, I believe that Alabama will beat Michigan State and move on to the Championship. Alabama is known for their shut down defense and they will shut down the Michigan State offense. Only one team has been able to score more than 30 points an Alabama’s defense so far this year. Michigan State’s defense is going to have to step it up and keep it a low scoring game. But that will be hard to do because of a guy named Derrick Henry. Henry won the Heisman this year and it was well deserved. He averaged 4.9 yards and carry and had 23 touchdowns this year. Derrick Henry and Alabama’s defense will be too much for Michigan State to handle, and Alabama will win the Cotton Bowl. Alabama will meet up with Clemson in the National Championship game. Clemson will win the Orange Bowl because they have one of the best ranked defenses in the nation. As of now they are ranked 7th in the nation defensively. There defense is lead by their linebacker Ben Boulware and their star cornerback Mackensie Alexander. These guys are two of the best defenders in the league and will lead their defense to shut down the Oklahoma offense. Also Clemson has the best quarterback in nation by the name of Deshaun Watson. Watson is having an amazing season and will continue to in the Orange Bowl. If Alabama makes it to the National Championship game, I believe that they will win it no matter who they play just because of their coach, Nick Saban. Saban is arguably the best college football coach in the nation. Also, he has a lot of experience coaching in big games. In his seven years at Alabama, he has won 5 bowl games. Three of those bowl wins have been National Championships. As long as Saban is there, Alabama has the best shot to win the National Championship. |
