By Caroline Ramsey Its that time of year again, just as the cold sets in for the winter, the basketball players take the court. Wilson basketball games have already started, each one bringing in more fans and frenzy as time goes on. Our boys started out on a rocky start in their first game of the season, but have redeemed themselves in the last couple of games. Opening night for the Wilson Bulldogs started off well. The Bulldogs gained tremendous momentum and carried a significant lead on the Pottsville Crimson Tide. Senior, Christian Sload, continued to score numerous baskets, as well as other players on Wilson’s roster. As time dragged on though, Wilson started to lose their momentum which the Crimson Tide saw as an advantage. It soon became tiresome to watch as the Tide began increasing their score to match the mighty Bulldogs. With just seconds left of the game, neck and neck, the Bulldogs tried one last time to sink another basket to take back the lead in the game. Unfortunately, it was a missed shot and a Crimson Tide player got the ball and shot and complete a buzzer beater. The ball went in as the clock struck zero, leaving the Bulldogs with a devastating loss of 47-44. The fresh wounds of the previous loss still stung as the Bulldogs suited up for their Wyomissing game the following Friday. The game was a challenge from the start. Wyomissing showed as a substantial threat, but Wilson played a great game and prevailed taking the 48-41 win. After the second game and their very first win, the Wilson Bulldogs decided to keep up their winning streak, this time beating Easton. Wilson easily took the 50-40 lead. A few days later, Wilson took the win from Berks Catholic 48-43. Though it was a little harder, it was an important win for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs basketball season began with a shaky start, but has begun to evolve and will continue to as the rest of the season unfolds. As they face their opponents, we will be sure to keep you updated on their progress. It's sure to be a thrilling season.
