To some, this is a mere accomplishment, but to the team it started a winning streak to a great end of the season. Two weeks later at Cumberland Valley High School, another huge milestone was achieved. Both teams became district champions, with the boys winning by a total of 159 points and the girls winning by a close 13 points.
On both teams, our swimmers did extremely well. The top scorers for the boys were Donovan Curran (a senior) 37 points, Caleb Eberly (a senior) 28.5 points and Max Valeriano (a senior) 25 points. Shelby Kahn (a sophomore), Kaitlyn Bitting (a sophomore) and Amalia Bradburn (a sophomore) were the top three scorers on the girls team, making a total of 103 points just between them. At this meet, the girls could be seen getting pumped up by the Zumba dances that Alison Snyder, the boys assistant coach, was displaying for all teams. Even though the majority were Wilson swimmers, eventually some other teams decided to join in the fun. The energy continued to skyrocket throughout the meet as swimmers were getting best times, coaches were getting excited and parents were screaming as loud as possible. The boys had a great meet as well, with the swimmers placing top 5 in 9 out of the 11 events. Next stop for both teams was States. The States meet is very hard to qualify for. Only the top swimmer in every district for every event has a guaranteed spot for the State meet. The next 24 spots are filled by the next fastest swimmers from all eight districts. The Districts meet, however, needs a swimmer to be in the top four for each event on their team and the top 32 in the district. Very few swimmers who compete in the District meet go on to compete in the State meet. Of the 17 swimmers on the District team for the boys, only 10 made it. Even fewer of the girls team qualified for the State meet. The team started with 18 swimmers and took eight to States. Once again, both teams were very successful. The boys team placed sixth overall and the girls team placed seventh overall. Shelby Kahn was the top scorer of the girls team at 25 points, helping their overall score of 105 points. For the boys, Donovan Curran scored 21 points to their total 98. Overall, it was a great season for both teams, capturing the titles of District and League Champions. Congratulations to all. We can’t wait to see what you bring next season.
