Virk refuted the claims made against him, telling multiple news sources, “much of what has been reported about my termination from ESPN is false and, I think, defamatory.”
ESPN begs to differ. A conference call was held about “Sunday Night Baseball” in which Virk was present. At the time, there was no specific information discussed in the call, and Virk was not present the entire time. What led to ESPN’s suspicions was that after this call, Virk called a higher up, Phil Orlins, the senior coordinating producer, who was knowledgeable in the scheduling of “Sunday Night Baseball.” The questions that Virk asked Orlins later showed up in a report done by “Awful Announcing.” These series of events were the red flags that led ESPN to escort Virk out of his office on February 1. Virk has told the press that the allegations made against him are false. Though he refused to reveal anything to the press, he did tell USA Today, “it is not productive for me to advocate my positions or to assert any affirmative claims in the press." Though at the moment, Virk’s lawyers and ESPN’s lawyers are currently holding discussions regarding his termination, it is not known what will happen to Virk as of now.
