By Kyle Edelman For the past five years, the NBA’s best overall power forward has been Blake Griffin; he combines smooth scoring with fierce rebounding and masterful passing, but his latest outbreak might have even his strongest supporters questioning his presence among the greats. According to reports from Foxsports.com, Griffin threw a punch at the Clippers assistant equipment manager at a Toronto restaurant on January 23rd. If that wasn’t worse enough, he broke his right shooting hand in the process causing him to miss another 4-6 weeks of playing time. Griffin had been out since December 26th after suffering a torn quadriceps muscle. Reports suggest that the equipment manager was indeed his friend, however he does still show “visible injuries to his face.” Members of the Clippers organization like Chris Paul and Doc Rivers were frantic to find out the details of this so-called incident and why their star player would be missing time of the court once again. Several hours after the report broke, Blake Griffin had this to say on his Twitter timeline: Though the dispute between the two is over, will the incident be in the rear view mirror? ESPN analysts strongly believe that suspension will be on the way for the four time All Star. Also, the team is investigating if alcohol or drugs could of been the cause to this debacle. Nonetheless, the blame does need to be shouldered on Blake Griffin. As a NBA superstar, you are given the responsibility of not only being a great player, but a great role model. He’s 10th in jersey sales, and 16th in total merchandise sold throughout the NBA according to NBA.com, so children look up to this man. Griffin is well aware of his status to the youth of America and throughout the world, and to let such a foolish act happen to tarnish his image is disheartening. Though Blake Griffin will be sidelined until March and miss the All Star game due to his lapse in judgement, the consequences of this incident will have lasting effects not only to his popularity, but his image and reputation.
