Chiefs superstar QB Patrick Mahomes won two awards, MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. Mahomes was considered the favorite for these awards after having a legendary season, throwing for over 5000 yards and 50 touchdowns.
The Chicago Bears had two coaches win awards, as well. Head coach Matt Nagy won Coach of the Year, while defensive coordinator Vic Fangio won the Assistant Coach of the Year award. Nagy and Fangio were able to turn around the Bears’ franchise, leading them to the NFC North crown and having one of the best defenses in the league. New York Giants rookie RB Saquon Barkley came home with hardware, winning both Pepsi’s and AP’s Rookie of the Year awards, after rushing for over 1300 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also won FedEx’s Ground Player of the Year award. The Indianapolis Colts had a pair of players win awards as well, with rookie LB Darius Leonard winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and star QB Andrew Luck winning Comeback Player of the Year after missing the entirety of the 2017-18 season. The Los Angeles Rams had multiple players winning awards. Superstar DT Aaron Donald won Defensive Player of the Year, and the Rams’ Offensive Line won the Built Ford Tough Offensive Line of the Year award. Donald also won the Deacon Jones award. Philadelphia Eagles’ DE Chris Long won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which is the most prestigious award possible. Long donated his entire salary to improve children’s education. The NFL’s awards help to highlight the stars of the season, but other NFL stars and celebrities come to the awards show. Seahawks star QB Russell Wilson and his wife, Ciara, came to the show to enjoy Harvey’s performance and the rest of the awards show.
