By: Adith Gopal While many people expect the Los Angeles Rams to win at least 12 games and win the NFC West, they also are the favorites to win the Super Bowl. So far this season, they’ve been living up to the hype, as they started the season 8-0, winning the majority of their games handily. The reason for the Rams’ success is primarily due to the work of All-Pro RB Todd Gurley II, All-Pro DT Aaron Donald and the 2017 Coach of the Year Sean McVay. As of Oct. 30 (end of Week 8), Gurley II posted 800 rushing yards, 15 total TDs and had 31 receptions for 351 yards. Gurley II has also been the number one player in fantasy football and nobody is close to him, regardless of format. Gurley II is having an even better season than he had last year, as he is projected to break LaDainian Tomlinson’s record of 31 TDs in a season, while Aaron Donald is having another monstrous season, as he already has 10 sacks to start the season off.
While McVay’s genius coaching, Gurley II’s versatility and Donald’s disruptiveness have garnered attention from around the league, QB Jared Goff has quietly been putting up an MVP-Caliber season, as he currently has 17 TDs to only 5 INTs, while currently throwing for the third most passing yards, with 2425. The Rams are stacked on both sides of the ball, with Goff and Gurley II running the offense and Donald and CB Marcus Peters heading the defense, while McVay continues to captain this Rams ship. Despite being 8-0, the Rams have not gotten contempt, as they received talented pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr. from the Jaguars in exchange for a 2019 third-round pick and a 2020 fifth-round pick. Their aggressive mindset before the trade deadline follows a current trend in the NFL of trading for valuable assets while their QB is still under a cheap, rookie contract. The Rams have a very good chance of going 11-0 or 10-1 before their bye week in Week 12. However, this may concern any fantasy players who currently own any Rams players, as they may not be there before the fantasy playoffs. McVay has a notorious reputation of resting his star players, even when there is something to play for. Last year, McVay risked going down from the #3 seed in the NFC Playoffs to #4 by benching his stars in Week 17, despite having something to play for. There is a very good chance that McVay will rest his starters during the fantasy playoffs to have them rested for the actual NFL playoffs. Anyone with current Rams players on their fantasy squads should trade them immediately. By the time the regular season ends, many people project the Rams to be a 14-2 or 13-3 team, as they may have the #1 seed in the NFC locked up before Week 13. However, a loss to the New Orleans Saints makes this task hards. However, both teams will play each other this week, and this matchup could potentially decide the NFC. Whatever the result, expect an amazing game. And certainly, expect a Rams season lasting well into January.
