By Kris Jones In the soccer world, we have heard time and again about young attacking talent being compared to the great Lionel Messi and time and again, they fail to live up to the hype. However, that might be subject to change thanks to a 13 year-old from the Ivory Coast. His name is Karamoko (Car-a-mo-ko) Dembele (Dem-bell-lay). He is touted as the young starlet for the Scottish club Celtic’s Under 20 team, and was even recently called up to the Scotland’s Under 16 team. Karamoko actually signed with Celtic back in 2013, and wowed the staff with his matured style of play and top shelf striking performance against Barcelona’s youth squad, which have been historically dominant and produced some of the best youth talent in the world.
With that result, the Celtic front office are keeping a close eye on him but are not looking to accelerate his career and development. This is a very smart move, as he looks to have loads of world-beater potential in him. Karamoko was born in 2003. In 2003, the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl, the English rugby team won the Rugby World Cup in Australia and Serena Williams completed a Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open. Now, we can add that the future Lionel Messi was born. Still, he has a long way to go until he is ready for the senior squad at Celtic or even to officially represent a country. In order to play on a senior squad in a club, a player must be at least 16 years old. For a national team, the player must play a competitive senior squad match, be it a cup match or a league match. Karamoko, if he were eligible for international play, could be able to represent Scotland, England or the Ivory Coast. This is because his mother and father are from the Ivory Coast and his family lived in England before moving to Scotland so he could play for Celtic. Whatever the case, each team could benefit from a young and hungry talent that looks to be one of the world’s best in the future. We have always questioned if there was ever going to be another Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. It looks like that question is finally answered in the form of a 13 year old playing in Scotland. Make sure to keep a close eye on him, as he might be the next highly touted player in the world.
