Federer has had an extraordinary tennis career. He won his first title at 19-years-old and has won at least one trophy in every season and at least four titles in 16 of the past 18 seasons, including a record 20 grand slams.
He has loved his life in tennis. “It’s been a long, wonderful journey and it all started as a junior world champion,” Federer said during the trophy presentation. “It’s been great, I wouldn’t do it any differently. I’ve loved every minute. Of course it’s tough sometimes to be on the road and away from your friends, but it was all very, very worthwhile, the sacrifice, and we’ll see how much more I’ve got in the tank. But reaching 100 is an absolute dream come true for me.” Federer has spent 310 total weeks as the top-ranked male tennis player in the world, more than any other man in history and six months more than Pete Sampras, who is currently second on the all-time list at 286 weeks. Currently ranked No. 7 in the world, Federer, who spent 237 consecutive weeks in the top spot from Feb. 2, 2004, to Aug. 17, 2008, will climb to No. 4 because of this win. Federer has the chance to beat Connors long standing record now that he is a triple digit winner.
