By: Mackenzie Kraras Wilson had lost to Mifflin only once in the past seven years, making the Bulldogs more ready than ever to take on their ultimate rival. The Mustangs ran out of luck when the Bulldogs took on a victory beating Mifflin 42-28. It was a dramatic comeback from the devastating loss last season. Some players that stood out during this game were junior Matt Fry (#3) and seniors Elijah Morales (#26) and Isaiah Gilmore (#5).
Wilson’s fans turned the stadium into a White-Out, as they do every year, to show their spirit. Not to mention, a real bulldog, known as Leatherneck, attends every game to pump up the players and attract the crowd. Wilson Head Coach Doug Dahms has been a part of the football program for over forty seasons and has been a head coach for the past thirteen. As the face of Wilson football, nothing makes him or the school more proud than seeing the team gain another victory - especially against their rival Mustangs. A popular saying by the students is “Protect the Lawn”. This saying is printed on the back of the Super Fan shirts and is constantly said by the players. Eleventh grader Sal Pugliese, defensive end and offensive guard, says “It means a lot to say we protected the lawn.” He also said, “I couldn’t be more proud of the team and that their hard work definitely paid off.” Especially after the loss last season, the Bulldogs are finally satisfied, have the rival trophy back where they want it, and have once again protected the lawn.
