By Kris Jones Soccer legend Ronaldinho just became even more legendary. After playing just two games in a futsal league in India and being the brand ambassador for the Paralympic games, Ronaldinho offered to play for Chapecoense, the Brazilian team that unfortunately had to experience tragedy last November. The team was travelling to Medellin, Colombia from Bolivia to compete in the biggest game in the club’s history, the Sudamericana Cup final. The plane crashed in Rionegro, which was near Medellin, the predetermined destination for the team. Sadly, only six people survived the crash. The other seventy-one people perished, and nineteen of the seventy-one were players.
People all around Brazil and around the world mourned for “South America’s Cinderella Team”. And a Cinderella team they were. The team have been promoted to the top flight in the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for the first time since 1970’s. The club is still trying to rebuild its staff and players. The soccer world came together and even some legends are trying to press for their entry into the club. Ronaldinho, Juan Roman Riquelme and Eidur Gudjohnsen are extending their hands in order to help a club in dire need. Although they were just rumors and the club has little to no chance to actually sign any of them, it is still a nice gesture by the legends. Even Barcelona has given them support, offering them a friendly match next year to open their season. Ronaldinho and the other players who offered to help may not be getting any younger, but every little bit helps. The club has yet to officially sign Ronaldinho and the other legends interested the club. But the deal might not happen, at least not yet. The brother of Ronaldinho has played down that he will join the club and other pundits have said that the club is looking at players within the pay range of the club. The actions taken by Ronaldinho and the others show that, no matter the country, the soccer community as a whole is one big family.
