Donald Trump has been at the forefront of every single media outlet since the day he decided to run for office. Every controversial opinion he holds is taken apart piece by piece, no matter what party the media is from. But his recent opinion has sparked some serious controversy. Donald Trump has recently said that he would ban all Muslims from coming into the United States if he is elected. It is speculated that these comments were in response to the terrorist attacks in San Bernardino earlier this month. His newest statement has sparked comments from not only people of opposing ideologies. Republicans, in his own party, has said he has gone too far. Paul Ryan, the newly appointed Speaker of the House, and the leader of the Republicans in the House, said, according to CNN, that his comments are, “not conservatism.” The chairman of the of the Republican National Committee, Reince Priebus has also said that he, “doesn't agree.” He added that they should, “aggressively take one radical terrorism, but not at the expense of our American values.” Ryan Hayman, a junior, said that what Trump is suggesting, “is comparable to how Hitler persecuted Jews.” Even before Trump mentioned banning Muslims from the United States, Brooke Scull, junior, stated, “Trump doesn't look at the other side of the argument - that Muslims are people too.” Opponents to Trump have stated that this comment violates what our country is built on. Students at Wilson aren't the only people who have something to say about Trump’s comments. Mrs. McDonough, the AP Government and CP Psychology teacher, said, “If Trump wants to run for President, he should take into account the pillar on which the nation was built on: freedom of religion.”
