Hillary Rodham Clinton pulled a huge win over her opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders in the South Carolina primaries on Feb. 27. Winning 73.5% of the vote and 39 of the delegate vote, it seems as though Clinton will have a shoo-in for the Democratic nomination. This is Clinton's third win to date, a track record mirrored in Republican candidate, Donald J Trump. In this pattern, many have predicted that Clinton will most likely be the definite choice for the Democratic nominee to run in November.
Exit polls from the primaries prove that Clinton received the majority vote from every demographic across the board, excluding the 15% who listed in the age group of 17-29. Of that 15%, 54% of that age group supported Sanders. Despite Sanders Black Lives Matter aspect of his campaign, Clinton took home 86% of the African American vote that night. Her policy proposals to promote racial justice and end the era of mass incarceration appealed greatly with African American voters. March 1 is Super Tuesday, when the rest of the nation joins in the primary voting stage. Will Clinton win it out, or will Sanders make up for lost votes? Stay tuned for next month.
