Q: I know high school is filled with homework and tests, but now it’s getting to be too much. I’m in my junior year, and honestly, between SATs, AP classes, and extracurriculars, I don’t get any time to breathe anymore. I feel like I’m always stressed out, and with college coming up soon, my stress is getting worse than ever. What should I do so I don’t implode? A: Junior year is most often the hardest year, but senior year, it does get easier. My solution is to prioritize. My junior year, I cut an extracurricular, and I focused on my harder classes. Classes I was better at, for the sake of my sanity, I put less effort in. I did get smaller grades, but it was worth it in the long run. Most teachers are aware of the stress in high school. If you talk to them because one week you have a million things to do, they will often give you a little leeway. School is not the only factor of stress, though. Make sure you are getting enough sleep each night. Also, have fun! This will decrease the effects of stress. You and your health are worth so much more than a number.
