Q: Right now I’m failing physics, and my parents are really mad. This grade is keeping me from participating in soccer, which is pretty much the only thing I look forward to. The problem is my teacher is really mean. I’m afraid of asking her questions because I feel like she just won’t help. What am I supposed to do? A: From my experience, teachers become very nice and personable when you talk to them one on one. I had several teachers who were, in class, not my favorite, but once I started going in after school to get extra help, they became really welcoming. You just have to get to know them. If you really can’t talk to the teacher, we have many other teachers at the high school. Although they cannot complete your tutoring form, a math teacher should be able to help you with working out calculations. Perhaps your friends or sibling has had a different teacher for the same subject that they really liked. Another possibility is to talk to a teacher from years past. If you have run out of options, you can go to the tutoring center and do your required tutoring with one of the teachers there. Good luck getting that grade up and don’t get discouraged.
