On Thurs., Oct. 29, 2015, Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Rep., was officially elected Speaker of the House after winning the majority rule with 263 votes from the House members. Ryan was nominated by the Republican party on Wed., Oct. 28, 2015 at the GOP Conference. Ryan is set to replace the previous Speaker, John Boehner, who resigned abruptly due to the conflict ridden House. The nomination took place in GOP conference where Ryan won 200 out of 247 GOP member votes. In Ryan’s post-nomination announcement, he said that, “this begins a new day for the house of representatives.” The republican Rep. urges progress and unification within his party because they, “have lost [their] vision,” said Ryan.
Ryan served as the Rep. for the first congressional district of Wisconsin. Ryan was also Mitt Romney's Vice President, but the duo lost to Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the 2012 Presidential election. Ryan will now take on the task of controlling the House in order to as he stated, “turn the page on the last few years and get to work on a bold agenda that we can take to the American people." Ryan, long time conservative, is said to be loyal to the Republican majority of the house. According to the Chicago Tribune, Ryan, “rose and pledged not to pursue any immigration bill unless it had the support of a majority of House Republicans,” at the GOP conference.
