Olympic athlete and fellow Bulldog, Kristy Kowal will be inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on October 24th, 2015 at the Valley Forge Casino. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will honor Kowal and her athletic integrity and sportsmanship. Kowal will be inducted among many other athletic figures like Bernie Parent, Peter Carlesimo, and Matt Bahr. Kowal competed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia where she received a silver medal in the 200-meter breaststroke. Kowal is a former world-record holder, and was the first American woman to win a world championship title in the 100-meter breaststroke. Kowal has made a splash not only in her athletic career, but also in the Wilson community. Kowal retired from her athletic career in 2004. The Reading native is now a third grade teacher in the Wilson School District. Kowal spends her time teaching kids what she loves to do - swimming. She is an assistant swimming coach for Wilson High School where she mentors students and spreads her love for this aquatic sport.
