Hidden in the E300 hallway, Mrs. Fischenich’s room houses the Wilson Paw Print, which is the monthly newspaper of Wilson High School. To be involved, students are expected to attend meetings every first and third Tuesday of the month. At the first meeting of the month, students come and sign up for articles of their choice. Editors of each section have article ideas written down and students can either sign up for those or they can create their own article idea. It is the perfect club to create and promote all of the amazing things Wilson High School has to offer. (Photo Courtesy of wilsonsd.org) Paw Print has five main sections. There are news, sports, features, lifestyle, and editorials. News is the most time-sensitive section. This is where writers take current events from the Wilson community, national or international politics, movements, scientific discoveries, and more and write about it. These are not opinion pieces so they have to be unbiased, but it is a great way to improve writing skills as well as interviewing skills, as editors really look for first-person accounts in the form of interviews. The sports section includes all kinds of sports from all different places. Editor Dylan Edelman enjoys having tons of Wilson specific sports (football, soccer, tennis, etc.) as the main articles, as well as articles regarding sports teams, controversies, and player updates as they come up in the media. Writing for sports is an awesome way to write about the things that people are already watching! Editorials attract a lot of amazing writers. Normally a crowd-pleaser, these opinion-based pieces are always a great way to express opinions on current topics in the media as well as at school. This section is another great way to gain some interviewing skills and understanding how to research to create your opinion on a topic! Writing for the Features section is a super interesting and connective part of the Paw Print. This is where students can write about a friend with a cool talent, a parent with a unique job, or a teacher that they think goes above and beyond for their students. This is all about showing all of the amazing aspects of the Wilson community and the people involved in it. Currently, the Paw Print is looking for career features. Paw Print’s Lifestyle section is amazing because of the wide array of content it covers. Lifestyle is all about culture and fun facets of the media. Celeb news, book & movie reviews, music reviews, and even video game reviews all go here. There is even a column of creative work that students can submit to! Students frequently ask if they can write for different sections of the paper, and the answer is yes! Editors encourage writing for different sections each month, however, if you only want to write for one section you are more than welcome. (Photo Courtesy of wilsonpawprint.weebly.com)
