Also present at the meetings are the advisors, Debbie Witmoyer, Terry Stamm and Lisa Stoudt. Their extremely positive impact on the community within, and outside, of Wilson makes this club truly one of the most influential and important groups the school has to offer.
“LEO” stands for leadership, experience and opportunity, which is what the club offers to its members. They work with many organizations such as UNICEF and Red Cross. The club even works with the students in our school. Lisa Stoudt, an advisor and teacher at the high school, shared about their willingness to collaborate with a student and host a fundraiser for Leukemia. Stoudt beamed when talking about the impact the club has on the community and school. One thing she focused on was the diversity of events the club works on. “We do any organization, like helping any charity, so I think we do a wide variety of helping.” The LEO club is in charge of running the blood drives held in the library at Wilson High School. The members often write cards to veterans in partnership with Mission Barbeque as well. Recently, they helped with an event called Angel Tree at the Avedent Lutheran Church. This event was for children who have a parent in prison. The club helped decorate the Church and make gingerbread houses the night before. The next day, they supervised the event. Members collected gifts and handed them out to hundreds of people who showed up. Their kindness was greeted with gratefulness, leaving smiles on the faces of all the people at the event. The LEO club is always open to new members who are willing to be active. Not only does participation in this club look good on college resumes, but Stoudt observed that all the members have fun and, at the end of the day, are always satisfied and humbled with the work they do.
