By Jessica Reichart Mr. Blass: a biology teacher new to our school, but familiar with the routine as an educator. After a few years of teaching at Reading High, he made his way to his new home in the E400 hall of our Wilson High School. He not only teaches, but also participates in the football coaching staff. This may be his only other involvement in the Wilson community, but Mr. Blass plans to get more involved as his career at Wilson progresses. Being an active and positive participant in the community is important to him - but not as important as family. Mr. Blass has a 3 year-old daughter at home and another on the way. When speaking with him it shines through that family is put above anything else. With these exciting new changes of a new school and new addition to his family, you’ll see nothing but smiles in his room, including on himself. As a teacher, being a role model to students to do well and achieve their best is a given. However, with Mr. Blass’s motto of “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference" (spoken by Winston Churchill), nothing but positivity is also a part of his definition as a teacher. To start off the year, Mr. Blass told his classes a speech filled with pathos about his mother-in-law living a life that gives her every reason not to be happy, but still is. After wrapping up the story, he puts a positive twist on it to pass on to his students. No matter what she has been through and struggles with daily, she is positive. He continues to carry on this mindset through his life, and into the classroom.
“I’ve got nothing to complain about, and if I did, it’s not worth it”, says Blass. He continues to reinforce it whenever he can, adding to the educational experience. Sometimes it is good to focus on the good, as a stressed high school, you need to do just that. As the school year kicks into the full gear, Mr. Blass is taking it head on with a positive mindset and excitement from being a new addition to our Wilson family!
