By Sarah Larkin Miss Eblin is a new face to the Wilson hallways, as this is her first year here where she works in the English department, teaching both CP English 11 and Philosophy and Literature. Before she became a teacher, Miss Elbin went to Pennsylvania to get her degree, earning a Bachelor of Science in English Education from Millersville University along with a minor in Film Studies. Prior to teaching at Wilson, Miss Elbin taught for two years at South Hagerstown High School in Maryland and spent last year in Pennsylvania where she taught at Pine Grove Area High School of Schuylkill County. But there’s more to Miss Elbin than just a teacher; she enjoys doing a multitude of things outside of school. Like any English teacher, Miss Elbin enjoys reading, but she’ll also pick up a needle and thread at home. In the past, Miss Elbin has made stitchworks ranging from quilts to skirts to dresses all showing her individual style. When she’s not at home, you could find Miss Elbin scouring the piles of records at a flea market looking for the elusive one that has yet to find its way into her record collection. Miss Elbin can also be found running on a treadmill or in a neighborhood to relieve some stress while staying in shape.
During weekdays, though, you will find Miss Elbin hard at work teaching students at Wilson. In Miss Elbin’s classroom, you would not be doing a lot of sitting around and drooling while staring at a Google Slides presentation; instead, this modern teacher likes students to interact with each other in groups, partnerships, and classroom discussions so that their opinions can be heard. This environment allows for students to become more comfortable sharing their thoughts and also lets students become accustomed to respecting other points of view, both of which are goals Miss Elbin has for her students. Miss Elbin also works towards having students become better readers and writers along with enjoying reading and writing more. Since Miss Elbin is such an avid English-lover, it works out perfectly that she can share her interests with students. She even thought of becoming a teacher from a young age after having many exceptional teachers, so Miss Elbin’s passion for English and teaching shines through in her classes. Ultimately, Miss Elbin hopes that students learn that working diligently pays off and that being kind is always worthwhile.
