In the fight against Apple and the FBI to create an encryption code to access the iPhone of one of the terrorists involved in the San Bernardino shootings, there have been many controversies and reports of misinformation in regards to the case. On Feb. 17, a California judge ordered Apple to unlock the phone of one of the San Bernardino shooters, to which Tim Cook responded in an open letter an appeal to the request, refusing to create a “backdoor” for its software.

Saturday, February 13, 2016 marked the sudden death of Supreme Court Justice, Antonin Scalia, 79, who was said to have died from natural causes in Shafter, Texas. As listed in the Constitution of the United States of America, it is within the current President’s power to appoint a replacement Justice in a timely fashion. Yet there is controversy revolving around President Barack Obama appointing the next Justice or leaving the decision up to the next president, with the Republican controlled Senate at the helm of the talk. So far in this past year we have seen three rounds of Republican debates full of nothing but feeble attempts to make statements on any of the serious issues America is facing aside from illegal immigration and why Donald Trump’s hair resembles a wisp of discolored cotton candy. The Republicans have offered to the American people stacks of resumé builders that hold little to no weight, and more jokes about Marco Rubio’s thirst problem than we’d like to see. Who’s the top dog, who is the only person on this stage that has ever done this or that, and Donald Trump insulting his way around every “difficult” question is just about all we can get from that party’s three rounds of debates. It's third period and you are sitting in a study hall. Your stomach is growling and your energy is too low. You haven't eaten since dinner the night before, skipping breakfast because you were rushing out the door to catch your bus to school, and your lunch is last period - the struggles of being a high school student.
It is convenient for our school to have vending machines full of healthy snacks and drinks to help us throughout the day, but how helpful are they when they can only be accessed during the five minute scramble between classes? The answer - not so helpful. The 2016 presidential race is on the tracks, and there are many competitors. Among the Democratic party are: former Governor Lincoln Chafee, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Governor Martin O'Malley, US Senator Bernie Sanders, and former US Senator Jim Webb, with Vice President Joe Biden listed as a possible candidate. The Republican party holds a lengthier and more threatening list of candidates, those being: former Governor Jeb Bush, Dr. Ben Carson, Governor Chris Christie, US Senator Ted Cruz, businesswoman Carly Fiorina, former Governor Jim Gilmore, US Senator Lindsey Graham, former Governor Mike Huckabee, Governor Bobby Jindal, Governor John Kasich, former Governor George Pataki, US Senator Rand Paul, US Senator Marco Rubio, former US Senator Rick Santorum, and businessman Donald Trump. What are the numbers looking like? Former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is leading in the polls for the Democrats, with possible candidate, Vice President Joe Biden as the runner up by thirteen points. The Republican's top runner is businessman, Donald Trump. Not far behind him is retired neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson, trailing by seven points. Recent polls from Real Clear Politics, shows that the two leading candidates - Clinton and Trump - are tied 42-42 collectively. This will be a close race.
