By: Rachel KovachFor many years, Wilson has not had a homecoming or formal dance of any kind, due to very low student interest, attendance, and participation. This year, however, the outcome was very different. Wilson’s Student Government, along with advisors and Mr. Damiani, decided on having a “Fall Formal” instead of a normal “Homecoming” dance. We chose The Reading Museum Planetarium, a small venue that would be fitting for a semi-formal event. As discussed at our last Student Government meeting, it was necessary to go with a smaller venue so the school wouldn’t lose money from renting out a larger one, and then not many students showing up.
As a whole, the interest in going to the dance was underestimated , because all 200 tickets sold out very quickly, and now there’s even a waiting list for those who did not receive a ticket. On the first day of ticket sales, there was a long line of seniors outside of the office waiting to buy their tickets, all very excited that they’d be able to go. The following day, the underclassmen got to buy their tickets, but it resulted in some unexpected issues. There were only 200 tickets available, but there are more students interested in going than the number of tickets left. This caused many underclassmen to be wait-listed, so if someone who had already purchased a ticket found out they could not go, their ticket would go to someone on the waitlist. For those students who did receive a ticket, here is a recap of all of the information about the dance: it will be held at The Reading Museum Planetarium on November 16, 2019. The hours are from 6 pm to 9 pm, the doors will close at 7 pm, and semi-formal attire is requested. Please join us for a beautiful night under the stars!
