By: Alexa MonosOn Sunday February 3rd, 2019 a small two engine plane lost control and crashed into a suburban home in Southern California, killing five people and injuring two others. There was only one person, the pilot, on the 1981 Cessna. Most of the casualties were the residents of the home where the plane crashed. The house itself was located about 10 miles from Disneyland. It was a horrific scene. Firefighters and first responders were quick to secure the area around the crash. The entire neighborhood had debris and parts of the plane scattered everywhere. Many neighbors ran from their homes in fear that their homes would go up in flames. Also, they tried to help the residents where the plane crashed but to no avail, the house was engulfed in flames. Eliott Simpson, an investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board said the plane traveled about 10 miles and had climbed to about 7800 feet, before making a "rapid descent" into the neighborhood. Jared Bocachica, a witness said "the plane blew up in the sky."
There were many reactions from neighbors because of the chaos that ensued after the crash. There were pieces of the plane in front of many homes and in backyards up to four blocks away from the plane crash. The neighborhood’s reaction was one of utter disbelief and gratitude that there weren’t any more people injured when the plane crashed into the neighborhood.
