Q: My best friend and I have always been attached at the hip since third grade. The problem is that this is the first year I never see her. We have no classes or lunch together. I don’t even see her in the hallways anymore! I know they say your friends change in high school, but I don’t want that to happen. What should I do so that our friendship isn’t ruined? A: Surprisingly enough, I’ve endured a similar situation. I didn’t have any classes with one of my best friends, and it seemed like it would be impossible to see her at all. But when the school year started, we started spending time together before and after school and messaging during the day. I advise you to do something similar. Try to figure out if you two can meet in a classroom or anywhere else before or after school so you can see each other. If this is not possible, try to take advantage of messaging either through Google Hangouts, text, Snapchat, or any other means. Try to talk outside of school as well. Finally, make sure to see each other from time to time. This is especially important as face to face contact is often the best and most fulfilling type of contact. Good luck!
