Q: Last year one of my guy friends and I became really close. He’s pretty much my best friend. The problem is that I think I’m starting to like him. More and more I want to be his girlfriend and not just his friend. Should I tell him, or should I just try to get over him? A: This is tricky. You basically have two options. The first one is you can keep your feelings to yourself. This will keep your friendship with him intact, which can be both a good and bad thing, and you also have to deal with keeping your secret from him. You need to decide how desperate you are to share your feelings. The second option is to tell him your feelings. Ultimately, with this option you run the risk of either gaining a boyfriend or losing a friend. Before you make your decision, you may want to consider how he acts towards you. If he’s been acting particularly flirty or attentive, then there may be a chance he wants to be more than a friend too. But if he’s asking you about other girls, he’s probably not into you. Seriously consider how he treats you and realistically evaluate what that may mean. If you decide to tell him your feelings, be prepared for the fall back. There is a chance he may reciprocate your feelings, but there’s also a chance he just wants to remain friends. Consider both options. If he likes you back, do you want to start dating? If he doesn’t like you back, do you want to remain friends? Think carefully about your feelings and what you think will be best for you. Regardless of what happens, remember you have other friends help you out.
