The annual Wilson Homecoming festivities took place during the week of Sept. 28, through Oct. 2, culminating in the selection of our Homecoming King and Queen. On Friday Oct. 2, 2015, the homecoming football game took place at the Gurski Stadium. During halftime, the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen were announced. The winners of the honorary titles were Alex Keller and Casey Schmehl, and were crowned by last year’s King, Ian Roth. Every year at Wilson High School, students vote for the Homecoming King and Queen. The homecoming court consisted of 18 candidates for students to choose from. Each of the nominees participated in many different clubs here at Wilson and organizations within the community. Eleven senior girls were competing for the title of Homecoming Queen. The nominees included Ashley Southwick, Meredith Miller, Casey Schmehl, Tessa Logullo, Ashley MacKinnon, Madison Heckman, Molly Farrara, Catherine Ewing, Kelly Brennan, Jada Butler, and Gabriella Audi. In addition to the 11 seniors who ran for queen, there were also seven young men who were competing for King. These seniors included Todd Bailey, Anthony Covell, Alex Delpizzo, Alex Keller, Michael Schumacher, Kyle Wolf, and Eric Zhunio. On Oct. 2, rain poured down on the Gurski Field. The stands were scattered with about 60 community members, students, and parents who braved the frigid weather. By halftime the rain had died down a bit, but the cold weather was persistent. Before the court was presented, five fellow Bulldogs were inducted into the Wilson Sports Hall of Fame. Soon after, the court was introduced to the crowd as they stood in the center of the football field. The court and audience were left waiting anxiously until the winners of Homecoming finally were announced. The 2015 HomecomingKing and Queen were Casey Schmehl and Alex Keller. In the cold rain, Schmehl was awarded with the honorable crown. However, Keller was inside the high school performing in Neil Simon’s “Rumors,” and the crown was delivered to him afterwards. Throughout her years at Wilson, Schmehl has taken part in many clubs and organizations like choir and spirit club. She showed her school spirit in her homecoming video which started off with the well-known song “Who Let The Dogs Out.” When asked about being crowned Queen, Casey stated that she was, “very happy and excited.” Rachel Kroninger, freshman, stated, “Throughout Casey’s video, she was very enthusiastic and happy.” Keller has participated in his fair share of activities at Wilson High School. He is most known for his participation in Wilson Theater Company. Keller’s homecoming video was a hit among students. This was apparent due to the laughter that erupted from students throughout the showing of his video. In addition to the football game, students participated in spirit week during the week leading up to the Homecoming football game. Some of the activities included a pep rally and “Fancy Friday.”
