Their people voted to leave the European Union, or the EU, with a 51.9% to 48.1% vote. Nearly three years later, they are beginning to organize a plan to leave. This has faced much criticism due to the manner in which it has been handled.

At the age of 94, Bush died in his home in Houston after speaking his last words to his son and former President George W. Bush in a phone call: “I love you, too.” By: Luke ScanlonA group of about 5,000 migrants from Central America is currently making its way towards the United States. Most of the migrants say they are coming to America in search of a better life. This group began its journey in Honduras and has traveled through Guatemala and much of Mexico; the group’s final destination is the US border. By: Milo PayneEarlier this year, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) voted to change the responsibilities and powers held by superdelegates during their presidential primaries. Such superdelegates were a cause of major controversy during the 2016 election, as it led many progressives in support of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to outrage over the fact that the superdelegates, many of whom accused of having shady connections with later Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, were voting against the states that they were designed to represent. As a cheerleader, I have walked in the parade for five years now and nothing beats seeing the ecstatic faces of all the children dressed in their costumes running after the candy on the streets. This has been brought on by years of criticism over abusive labor practices, which include constant reminders for workers to reach impossibly high quotas or be terminated, and wages barely above the poverty line. By: Sara Williamson On Sunday, Aug. 26, two people were killed in a shooting. Eleven others were wounded in the shooting in Jacksonville, Florida during a gaming tournament. 13 shots were fired before the live stream ended. After the shooter was done he proceeded to kill himself. David Katz, age 24, was confirmed as the shooter. The men who were killed are Elijah Clayton, age 22, and Taylor Robertson, age 28. There was no real reason described but most people are suspecting that after losing to two other gamers in the tournament that Katz was pushed by the rage of losing. By: Erin Endes In July 2017, former Reading Mayor, Vaughn Spencer was indicted and convicted of eleven counts of bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud. Over a year later, on Aug. 30, 2018, Spencer was the last of the 16 elected officials to face trial, and a jury comprised of seven men and five women found him guilty of all eleven charges. By Ava BreslinFollowing the end of their contract on June 30 2016, Wilson’s Education Association (WEA) has been trying to negotiate the terms of their new contract with the Wilson School Board. Their requests and needs had not been answered and they released a statement on Thursday Jan. 11 2018 that staff would go on strike on Tuesday Jan. 23rd if the board did not come back with what the WEA deems as an agreeable and fair contract. Due to what seems to be miscommunication on both sides, the process has drug out for about 10 months. Currently, the Board and the WEA have reached a tentative agreement.
